I joined Yaro Starak’s Blog Mastermind Program on the first day of launching. As a member, I am allowed to ask my questions to Yaro in the private section of the blog mastermind forum and from time to time I will receive courses from Yaro which will guide us to make money from a blog. I really learn a lot from the membership site and forum as there are many people there to discuss and learn from each other how to make money online.

Last Friday, I received the second course from Yaro which is about how to choose a domain name and topic of a blog. Inside there, Yaro asked us a question on how many hours we really spend daily to achieve our goal? This really good question that make me think about why people fail to make money in their online business and actually what are the reasons that blocking them.

After thinking for quite some time, I listed down some of the reasons and I decided to write an article on this topic and wish to discuss the problems and also solutions with you. In this article, I will share some of the problems that blocking people making money from online business and the solution that you can take to avoid the problems. Now let us start the discussion.

Not Enough Hard Works is the Main Reason of Failure in Anything

Most people fail in online business because they are not working hard enough to achieve what they want. I think this is the biggest reason and obstacle that causing people fail in online business. Initially, they read some great stories or some sales letter that promised and inspired them that they can make many thousands of dollars from the internet easily by just sitting in the house. They are so inspired and they just take out some money to sign up a mlm system or affiliate company and think that they can make money after that. However, they never think that they must pay the price to get what they want – Hard works.

They do nothing every week and just spend their time, sitting in front of the computer and checking their email and also member area to see any money is coming to them. However, they just end up feeling frustrated and sad when the screen just showing “0” sales every time they check their account. Yes, you can make money from internet without doing anything if you are lucky or at the time when the internet start boosting. Years ago, the quantity of web site on the internet is low and people tends to click on everything include banner. However today, market is different and you have to spend some time, do some research, take some actions and do some hard works to attract traffic so people can know about your products and offer and buy from you. This is what we called “Internet Marketing”. Today, Market is simply different. You have to do extra to make money. However, in long run, the hard works are worth it.

Ok, maybe you are some of the minority where you really work hard to make money from online business, however, another problem is:

The Factors of Patient and Persistence

Everyone in this world hopes that they can achieve their goals and dreams as fast as possible. Don’t you think it will be great if you can achieve your goals tomorrow?

However in reality there are really low in possibility that you can achieve your goal overnight. Your goal will only come true if you pay enough the hard works. But the question here is, Can you stay patient and do the hard works constantly for the first few months without getting anything back in return?

In starting, people are highly motivated and believe that they can make money from internet. They really take action and do something daily to achieve their goals. However, they change their mindset after a few month of getting nothing or the rewards of online businesses are low. Then they will give up what they are doing right now and looking for the next business. Do you think you can make money if you keep searching the next new hot business that makes you rich quickly?

I read a lot of success stories from successful online entrepreneurs. There is 1 same common point for their stories – They made nothing for the first 6-12 months but just keep working hard to promote their web site and affiliate program. They achieve their goals because they are patient and persistence to do whatever they can in order to be success in online business.

This is why I always remind myself that I must work hard in a consistence and persistence way.

The Top 4 Mindset Problems

I believe that our mindset is the most powerful resources that will program and set our future. Because of this, mindset can change what we believe, our actions and then the end results. So there are top 5 mindset problems that holding people from being success in online business.

1. Fear – Fear can freeze a person from taking any action. Fear is the most powerful feeling in our mindset that will determine how we take action. One of the common fears that most people and I have is the fear of trial and error. You will be blocked from action due to the fear of trial and error. In online business, just like other business, we have to do a lot of trial and learn from error so we can improve. We must try everything that we can think about in order to promote our online business and attract traffic to our site and business. Just like what I said in my post, How to Make Money from Blogging and Achieve Financial Freedom, Traffic is everything in online business.

2. Procrastination – I can tell you that I’m a great procrastinator. I can always find some ways or reasons to procrastinate my current works to tomorrow or maybe next few months. However I know this is the biggest obstacle that I have which will block me from making any thing success. There are a lot of preparations have to be done in order to start a profitable online business. However, procrastination will only make us do nothing and end up achieve nothing after so many years. Because we just keep procrastinate our job and never finish whatever we must. So I decided to remove this old habits because I know I just wasting time on procrastination.

3. Excuses –“Online business is only for those who are smart.” This is only one of the excuses that I always tell myself. Well, it is pretty easy to make excuses than taking some hard actions. I just give out an excuse, in a persuasive form, to persuade myself that it is ok for me to give up because online business is not for me. Here, all I have to do is thinking, speaking(to your inner self) and compromising. I really don’t do any hard work on this, am I? People will only give their own excuses not taking action because giving an excuse is so much easier than actions.

4. Laziness – I believe everyone of us are lazy, don’t you? I think this is why people join those get rich quick program. From my experience, laziness will increase your procrastination and excuses that will persuade you to stop working hard for your goal. Well, sometime it is just quite hard to fight with laziness. However, there are some way to fight with this and I’m going to share this ways with you at the last part of the articles. So be patient….
   
   
5. Discouragement – Just like what I said just now, we must do a lot of trials and errors in order to figure out a way to make money from internet. If you are not motivated enough, you can easily discourage from the failure. This is one of the reasons why so many people give up making money from internet because of low in motivation and discouragement. Then you will think a lot of excuses why you should stop. I believe we use excuses to make our mind, our heart to feel better because we are giving up our goal and dream, which I think might give some stress to us emotionally.

Actually there are a lot of mindset problem, however, above is just the Top 5 that I can think about or I feel it myself before. Below is the Top business mistakes that people made which are making their online business fail.

The Top 4 Business Mistakes of Online Business

In the last section, I discussed the mindset problems that causes people fail to make money in online business. Now, I will show you the mistakes that most people make when starting and running their online business:

1. Failure to Plan – People will find some great idea or business to start online and ready to make money. However, they don’t plan properly how to run the business. For example, according to Yaro, if you want to succeed in blogging and make a living from it, you must know your plan to write content, plan to market your content and plan to monetize your blog. In business, it all about planning that determines your success. Well, if you walk into a bank and ask for the business loan without any business plan, I think you will be rejected.

2. Busy on wrong works – Do you read the book 4-hour workweek of Timothy Ferriss? In his book, the first main steps you can save a lot of time for your work is stop spending so much time checking and reading your email. I call this “busy on the wrong works”. People are easy to confuse between the productive works and also supportive works. Productive works are works that will bring you money, it either can improve your online business or bring more traffic to your site. A supportive works are works that not really important which you can do later of the day. However you cannot let go the works because it is supporting your business. However, in most cases, people can easily spend a lot of time in supportive works and forget about the productive works. Maybe checking an email is easier than writing an article for your site. The principal of “Avoid the pain and look for pleasure” apply here.

3. Don’t understand the business model and system – There are a lot of business models available to make money from the internet. Maybe you can start a blog or selling some unique products over Ebay. Every one of them has their own business system and know-how that you must learn and adopt in order to be profitable. However, people always forget to do some research on this and spend time for the hard works. Maybe they are too busy or lazy? So once again they fail to make any money because of busy(excuses) and lazy(laziness).

4. Never Improve – I was told that if you want to make money from a business, you must provide some kind of value to people. Because of this, people will only exchange the value, provide by you, with money. However, the world is changing very fast especially in the internet world. Every day, there are new kinds of business trend and marketing strategies appears in the online business world. Like what I said, last few years, banner ads are enough to attract customers to your products and services. At that time 90% of internet user will click on a banner. However, today is different where text link ads are giving the better result than banner ads. If someone never improve and overlook the power of text link ad, then his/her online business might be in trouble.

Now What is the Solution for those Problems Above?

Ok, the problems are enough. Now is time to for the solution.

I believe there are always solutions around the problems. As long as you are willing to take action to overcome your problems, there are always solutions around your mind. Here is my suggestion and also some steps that I’m taking right now to overcome the problems above:

Create a goal for your online business. How much you want to make, daily, weekly, monthly from your online business? As usual, your goal must be clear cut, have a figure and also set a time limit for it. For example, I want to make $1000 monthly from my blog before the end of the year 2007. Once you set your goal, please write it down. I usually make a card for it using my Microsoft Publisher Software and then stick it on my working table. Then every early morning and evening, I will read through it and remind me what my goal is. Here you will create a pushing power for yourself and also your mind that you must take action, overcome your laziness and dare to trial and fail. This because everything you have done is for your own goal and dream.

Create A Plan to Achieve Your Goal. Before this, I always set a goal for myself on how much money I should make in one time. However I usually fail to make it because I don’t have a plan for it. Now it is much better after I compile a plan for my goal. So far here are the details that I will include in my plan for my goal.

1. A list of “why” you must achieve your goal before the time limit. If possible please include some of the painful reason inside here. According to Anthony Robbins, the world number 1 success coach, our human tends to do everything we can to avoid plan and gain pleasure. If you can make yourself pain enough that you have no choice but have to success, you will never fail.
2. A clear list of “tools” that I can use to achieve my goal. For example, if you want to make $1000 per month, then you must list down where the money should come from. If you have multiple resources for income, then you must list down the amount of money that you can make from each resource that make you $1000 per month.
3. Then some actions plan how to use the listed “tools” above to make money. In my opinions, I think you must make the actions as simple as possible. This is because you will take these steps daily. If too complicated, your mind will think it is suffer and hard. This will block you from taking action. I always believe that Daily simple steps are more important than a giant steps. In order to overcome the problem of “doing the wrong works”, you must set a priority of your action plan. Maybe you can consider write an article for your site before checking your email and etc.

4. Remember to include some rewards at the end of your plan. You have your pain for not taking actions, an action plan for achieving your goal, listed down some tools to help you. Now it is time to discuss about the rewards of all the hard works you have done, if only you take action, with your mind. Maybe you can go for a holiday after achieving the goal or buy something that you dream for. Just write down the rewards on it.

5. Last but not least, please write down your signature inside at the bottom of the plan. Well, to me this is an agreement with myself. I must sign on it and agree all the terms and conditions. This is a promise for myself and there are no ways to cheat myself and break the promise.

This plan will help you to overcome your laziness and also fight with your excuses. Every time I start telling myself that online business is for the smart then I will use this plan to remind myself that I have a plan to be success too, then why not take action. This is how I do.

Get a mentor or start your journey of reading! Ok, in order to reduce the time of trial and error to overcome the business mistakes that I mentioned above, I recommend you to get a mentor. Getting a mentor will really save you a lot of time as he/she can tell you the true way to accomplish something. His/her jobs are sharing his/her experience with you so you can avoid those unnecessary trials and errors.

The more you read, the more you learn and the higher chances you can make money from internet. However, there is a trap, you may read too much until you never take any action. So please remember, for every simple thing you learn, you must take action to use it. Don’t just read and never take action. The information will be useless if you don’t use it.
