I visit a lot of personal finance forums and I also read a lot of desperate questions about how to get out of debts. Many of them are stress, desperate and afraid to confront with their debts. Some of them even fall into the deep debt that make them feel like life is meaningless and suffer. I can tell you that this is quite a dangerous state of mind.

I understand the stress of debts and I always want to help those in debt to solve the problems. So today I decided to share my personal experience and steps that I am using to help my parent getting out of debts. So far my parent and I tried the steps and found that they are working fine with us. So I wish to share it over here and without further ado, here are the steps:

1. Feel the Pain and stop acquiring more debts. Being in debt is stress and pain, especially if your income is not enough to cover both debt and living expenses. So spend your money wisely and stop buying things that not really needed. People usually spend money on something that is not important. Stop using credit card and use cash for daily transaction. This will prevent you from getting more new debt.
   
2. Start a budget. I believe budget, a plan on spending money, is a must for every one of us. It simply helps us to control our spending habits and spend properly according to the plan. Of course, your self-discipline is important here.
   
3. Pay the debt First! I help my father opened an online account for his checking account and from there I will use part of the money to pay debts over the internet before we cash out for our living expenses. So what we are doing is pay our debt first.
   
4. Using the Debt Snowball method. This is a famous method to pay off your debt. The theory is simple. All you have to do is pay minimum payment for all the debts except the lowest interest rate one. That’s mean you are concentrating on the lowest interest rate first. Theoretically, you can pay off your lowest interest rate debt very fast and this will give you a sense of accomplishment and motivation that will keep you moving forwards.
   
5. Outsource your problem. In my case, I’m acting like a third party who helps my father to handle his money. I’m less emotional than my father in money and I can help him to manage his money wisely. You can do this too. If you found that you are emotional and cannot handle your money properly, then you must find someone that you trust to help you on this.
   
6. Pay attention on those balance transfer offers. I always look for a better deal and offer to balance transfer the debts to a lower rate account. This will help me to save up some money by transferring my balance to the lower interest rate account.
   
7. Stop the fear and confront with the debt. One of the main problems I found is people tends to avoid talking and taking care of their debts. They simply avoid it. Yes it is stress to handle your money especially when you are in debt. However, no one can help you except you want to help yourself. You only can free from the stress by confronting with it. I believe short term pain is better than long term pain. So why not confront with your debt now, fight with it, settle it and have a more relax and brighter day in future.
   
8. Never stop learning. There are a lot of information, strategies and stories about getting out of debt available in the internet. So spend some time and read around, you will find some good deals, better plan and better know-how on how to get out of debt.
   

In conclusion, Prevent is better than solution. We must learn how to manage our money and prevent us from falling into the debt. If you are unlucky and have some debts now, then you must have a plan and pay off your debt as soon as possible. The most important is start now and stop procrastination. You do this mainly for a brighter future and I don’t think there are any reasons to procrastinate this.

How to Manage Money Free Debt Helps

In my latest post, How to make a plan to achieve financial freedom, part 3, I recommend that we should start a business or build up some kind of income source to make excessive cash. This is because we need excessive cash to support our life and invest to get more passive income in the journey to financial freedom. 

When comes to business, I will recommend you to start an Internet business. Currently I’m running 2 kind of business, one is online and another is offline. So from my experience, I can tell you that I will definitely choose internet business as my main business. Below are the 8 reasons why I say so:

Reason #1 : The Potential of Internet Business

Does Internet Business have a greater potential than other small business? Not really. This has to depend on a lot of factors and vectors around. However, Internet business still has its own greatest potential. A recent report by Forrester Research shows that online spending will grow up to $229 Billion Dollars by 2008. So can you imagine what it would be if you can share 0.01% from this figure?

Reason #2 : The Leverage of Currencies Exchange

US dollar is the most common currency used in Internet Transaction. So the money you make from your internet business is in US dollar too. This actually a great leverage to those people from other country. For example, I’m coming from Malaysia and 1 US dollar equals to 3.4 Ringgit Malaysia. So for every dollar I make, I will make 3 dollar in my country. With this leverage, my internet income can easily over pass the average income in my country.  

Reason #3 : Low Start Up Costs

If you ever start a business before, you will know that starting a small business is quite expensive. However, Internet business is different. You don’t need to rent any office space. You don’t need any office furniture or hire half a dozen workers. There will be no salaries to pay and no labor insurance to worry. All you need is a computer that can online to run your online business. Maybe you need to spend another $50 per month to get your own domain name, web hosting or do some marketing for your site.  

Reason #4 : Good Profit Margin

Most Internet businesses have high profit margins due to the low direct cost of sales. Let’s take the ebook business as the example. You don’t need any cost for stocking and delivering for your ebook. Like what I said just now, you just need a web hosting that cost you less than $100 per month. You may also need to pay a fairly small percentage of sales revenue for payment processing fees. Generally, you will make a profit of 50-75% in selling an ebook. A traditional small business is really hard to get this level of profit percentage in the sales.  

Reason #5 : Global Market

Your internet business is targeting on those internet users all over the world. You can easily target on customers in any country you choose to. This market is getting big as more and more people will online in future.  

Reason #6 : Spend More Time in my Home With My Family

I like to stay at home. I love to spend time with my family. So an Internet business will be my choice. The basic requirements of an internet business are computer and internet cable. So I can easily setup an office in my house and I can start making money from my home. I don’t have to run around under the hot sun, get stuck in the traffic jam and wear those formal clothes. Every day I just open my PC, connect to internet and I can start my business. If I finish my works, I can hang around with my family and do whatever I want to. This kind of leisure time is what I want in my life. 

Reason #7 : Take More and Longer Vacations

I like traveling and I wish to spend most of my time in this. Recently I bought my new laptop and my internet business becomes portable. I can easily handle all my internet business related tasks easily in anywhere and anytime. So with a laptop, I can travel more and in a longer time since I can handle my business in anywhere. This is some kind of freedom that is hardly available in other traditional businesses and jobs. 

Reason #8 : I enjoy it

I enjoy myself in Internet business. First I don’t have to do all the physically hard works. All I have to do is sit in front of my laptop and keep my finger busy with typing. To me this is an easy job and I enjoy this every much. Maybe this is because I am introversive. :-)

In order to achieve something, besides a plan, you must also set your mindset and thinking in the correct way which will support your plan and help you to take action.

What is Mindset?

In general, Mindset is a set of system and standard that we use to model our thinking. How we think will determine what we believe. What we believe will determine how we take action and action will determine what kind of results we will get.

So if you are having a wrong mindset, then your thinking and believe system will go the other way. In this condition, you will never achieve what you want.

For example, I believe I can achieve financial freedom before age of 30. This is because I think that I deserve to have a better life, better choice and have the ability to own abundance of wealth. Because of this my mindset is totally different from my friends. All my friends went to University, graduated and get a steady job with steady income. However, I rejected the offer from University, start my business, and try to build a business system that going to generate massive of income for me. Now can you see it? Because my mindset is different, my actions and decisions are different too and guess what, my life and future will definitely different too.

Mindset and Your Plans

In last 3 parts, I hope you already make a plan for you to achieve financial freedom. Don’t worry if your plan is simple and not in details enough. You can always change your plan in future and add more details in it. Now what important is taking action! With action, you can gain experience and you can add more information into your plan accordingly at that time.

So what make you take action according your plan? It is your believe and your mindset.

Before this I make a lot of plans and I can tell you that I fail with all of them. The main reason I found is I never take action according to my plan and eventually I feel stress with it and have to throw it away in order to get back the peace for my mind. I think this is a big problem that I must solve in order to move on.

After that I read an article about mindset and believe system. I also read Anthony Robbin’s The Giant Within. Then only I know my main problem is I never believe my plans and my mindset keep fighting with it. This is why I feel stress, unmotivated and never take appropriate actions.

So from that time, I set a plan that I will believe. For example, in my new plan, making $3000 monthly from my business is reasonable. But in my old plans, I start with 1 million dollars which is not accepted by my mindset because I never believe I can make this! I must gain more knowledge and experience in order to expand my mindset to accept that I can make 1 million dollars from my business.

How to Make your Mindset Compromise with your plan

Ok, here are some tips that I can give you base on my experience in planning:

1. Set an achievable Goal. A goal that you believe you can achieve.

2. List out the actions that you can take to achieve the goal. This will make you feel easy with your goals.

3. Prepare and gain more information & Knowledge for your plan. This will help you increase you confidence level on your plans.
   
   
4. Find someone and announce your plan. The more you tell, the more confidence you get and eventually you will some kind of power inside you.
   
   
5. Make a Contract of your goal, print it out and sign it. This is an agreement. If possible please stick this contract to a place that can easily catch your attention. I stick this on my working table.
